You might be able to get your best guage of the going rate in the area by calling alteration shops in the area, cleaners often provide this service, higher end clothing shops and bridal shops also provide this service.

My name is Amber, I live in a small town in Missouri. One of my childrens teachers called me and asked if I would be willing to do some alterations for her. I did do alterations for a time but that was long ago and in another area of Missouri. Can anyone give a price of what they charge for alterations? Thank you, and have a great day! Amber

Hi Katherine...I just read the post on "How to Sew an Easy Centered Zipper" ....again. My zippers are "just ok" looking and for this reason I shy away from making anything calling for a zipper that anyone might see. I found an actual tutorial in another posting, so I am going to save that. Thank you for offering your guidance to me.

I've been doing alterations on women's clothes, bridesmaids dresses and Once, a wedding gown. The only thing I shy away from is the shoulder area....especially in men's suits. I just say no. Patty, have a special problem with zips? let me know, maybe I can help you.

I am new to this site. When friends and family know you can sew, you are asked to do a variety of different things to make their clothes fit. So, I figured I should gain tips, pointers and advice from people who specalize in alterations. I have gotten through everything from hemming pants to prom gown alterations. I really have a problem with zippers......looking for any tips, tricks etc. Patty
