Your favourite Canadian fabric retailer? 18 Replies

We have Atlantic Fabrics (independent) and Fabricville (which is apparently Fabricland?). I don't have a favourite.

Katrina, I find this very frustrating also. A year ago I moved from suburban Montreal to rural Ontario (between Smiths Falls & Perth) and although there are several quilting shops in the area there is only one shop (Perth) that carries general purpose fabrics, but not a large selection. The nearest Fabriclands are in Kanata (45 mins) and Kingston (1 hr +). I plan my fabric/notion shopping for the times I must go to Kanata or Kingston. I don't like to shop for fabrics online; not touchy feely enough.

I live in Gravenhurst, Ontario. The only source for fabric that I have found is a Fabricland in Orillia (45 min. drive) and one in Huntsville ( 1 hr. drive ) and a few quilting shops. I wonder how others in this situation deal with finding quality fabric for garments. The only other option I've come across is to order online and that's not satisfactory for feeling the hand of the fabric. It's really frustrating.

Thank you Mary. I was at Bayers Road last year. Although they are not part of Fabricland here in Ontario they allowed me to use my membership card for a discount. Very nice people and well worth a revisit.

Warna, lucky you going to Halifax - it is one of my favourite places! Glad you asked for the fabric store info - I am going to try to get to them the next time I go down. Thanks to Mary & the Editor too!

The best place is the Fabricville on Bayers Rd. The store is beautiful, the staff really try hard. They have the best selection and don't forget to check thru the cheapie stuff at the back. Sometimes you can find really nice fabric on a roll that they are trying to get rid of.

The manager is Nicole, a nice girl.

Wow, thank you. I have been to the Fabricville at Bayers Road....very nice store. I will check out some of the others. Thank you so much for sending me this list. What a great website this is!! I am passing the address on to my sewing buddies - everyone from novice to expert can benefit from being on here.

Hello All. I am heading to Halifax in about two weeks time. I will have a few days to myself and am looking for suggestions of fabric/notion/beading stores that are in the area. I have a car and a gps so I can find them!! Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi Mary.....are we not all trying to reduce our stashes!!!
I have purposely set out to do that, making great headway because I do alot of charity sewing and "so called friends' keep on donating blue recycling bags of fabric for me to sew up for charity or gift to those who need fabric!
