From Brandy R. Samuels

"Hi I am new to the site. Okay...........I live in Minnesota and I would like to know what fabric place would be closer for me to visit when going to Ontario or other places closer to me. When I lived in Seattle I used to go across the border to get fabric all the time because it was cheaper. Does that still stand or are you guys having trouble getting good fabric as well? Hope to hear from someone soon"

Brandy...I'm from the Ottawa Ontario area and know of quilting shops in this area. But that probably isn't the area or the type of fabrick that you are interested in? What area of Ontario would you be willing to visit? I hate to say it but I usually travel to the US to buy cheaper fabric...or I buy on-line. Hope someone can give you some fabric sources.
I love Fabricland in London, Ontario. We are fortunate to have 3 stores in this city with lots of fabric...and if you hit the sales, the prices are awesome.....Patterns and fabric always go on sale! They always seem to have what I want...oops NEED!!

Any where in Ontario I would be willing to travel. Could any tell my which town has the most fabric or even stores that sell sewing machines. If you give my the names I will look them up in the directory so that I can get the correct addresses. I am more or less interested in fabric not quilting stuff. If there are any places that have online sales of fabric in Ontario let me know. You can email me: mamafiore22002@yahoo.com....Just guide me in the right directions
THis is the only on-line source for fabric that I know about. It is a small high end fashion designer shop here in Ottawa but he has a huge variety of buttons. I did say it was high end...which means high prices...although the prices are in Cdn $$

I love Darrell Thomas but it is pricey, the place to get a super special fabric if you have tested your pattern well, the store is tiny but has lots of neat stuff, the silks are downstairs but upstairs he organizes his fabrics by colour groups not weave/fibre etc, helps with planning outfits. Great twills and knits when in stock

If I was travelling to Canada just for fabric shopping I would go to Toronto. More variety, bigger city etc, perhaps hit the needle work festival in oct, THAT would be fun.
For the best selection & to discover fabric shops (that don't seem to have any listing anywhere, or advertise anywhere) definitely consider attending the 'Creative Sewing Show' in October. It's held in the 'Metro Toronto Convention Centre'. It's not as good as it used to be! There are a lot of crafty things & other things not related to sewing or crafting. The stores participating usually have the newest fabrics & lots of sales! You'll enjoy it. Plan on attending a full day. Go to their site: http://www.csnf.com/f09_index.html
Hi Brandy,

Not sure if this still applies, but the most concentrated area for fabrics is in the Golden horseshoe area (Hamilton, Oakville, Burlington) If you are interested I can give you a list. Toronto has a few pockets, unfortunately you will have to be in a hunting mood to go down to the old garment district. If you are coming to Toronto for the Needlework Festival most places are within an hour's drive of downtown.
Hamilton is enroute to Detroit if you are driving..... let me know if you want more information.
