(This swap will be sponsored by GorgeousFabrics.com.)

I first need to know what yardage everyone thinks is appropriate. I also need to know what types of fabrics. We can be flexible here if everyone can play nice :) The more feedback I receive the easier it will be to put it in motion.

Everyone who wants to participate in this swap, please give your thoughts:

I have never done this before. Please explain :) Thanks
How does a fabric swap work? I have never done this.
I presume we're swapping fabric for sewing garments not the garments themselves (?).
I'd be interested in anything but quilter's cotton.
Hi! Having never done this before, how would this work? Am interested in anything except quilting. Thank you!
I've never done a fabric swap, but it sounds like fun. Would we need to send pictures of the fabric or what? Can you give a little more info about how it would work? Would there be minimum yardage requirements, or would the swappers figure it out between themselves? Interested, but unsure. I have some upholstery fabric, too. Would that be included?
Well I wouldn't go overboard on the yardage most people can afford a yard or two if they don't have it in their stash. I personnally could give away a hundred yards and not notice a dent.. I have just way too much fabric. I do have a long haired cat just to let everyone know but I do wash all my fabric and am trying to keep it in my spare room now.. I'm in let me know what's what.
Who cares about the cat hair! Don't these allergic "people" have washing machines? I have a cocker spaniel and I think his hair is beautiful. For years people have been exposed to animal hair, and I never heard of any one dying from it. If the person buying the material is that sensitive to animals, I think it is their responsibilty to say so.I bet 99% of the public is NOT sensitive to animals fur/hair. If they have this allergy they shouldn't be buying used fabric! I am allergic to sizing, so to go into a fabric store is hard for me. I just don't spend a lot of time there. I do OK. Keep the cat! Laurie
I think about 3 yards of fabric is a good place to start and I can work with just about anything but stretchy jersey. I have lots of fabric that I could swap so looking forward to this.
the average sewer isn't going to have too many fabrics that they have in their stash with 3 yrds. If that's the case you should have a limit on how much money a person should spend it they need too.. Also is that 3 consecutive yards or maybe a yard of 3 different fabrics..
I think there should be a different catagory for quilting material since the required yardage is usually smaller. And there should be a garment catagory that starts at 3 yards. Most blouses, skirts, jackets, etc. require at least 3 yards of material - and that's not taking into consideration plaids, stripes, or nap. When you buy material it is pretty obvious by the yardage offered, whether it is suitable for quilts or garments, if the person listing the material, makes it clear the yardage available in a CONTINUOUS piece. Also, I have many fabrics, that I am unsure of the exact material content. We need a way to contact each other to further describe the fabric, whether on this site or email to email. Obviously I am a novice to this so I am just expressing what my concerns might be. Any one with solutions, please let me know. I buy a lot of material on line and have been surprised with material I didn't expect - that's why I don't always know the exact material content and have some very nice fabric that I don't know how to sew. Thanks, Laurie
I've never done this so you all tell me.
Hi-
I have done a fabric swap before...it's loads of fun!!! You post a picture & yardage & others would inquire. We generally swapped with the person that liked our fabric picture, but it can work other ways. We made anything from purses, appliqued jackets, skirts, etc. It was great fun! Count me in :)
