Sew, What's New?

Curating sewing and quilting talent, techniques, and tutorials, since 1997.

I started working on a pattern that tells me to finish the edges of each side of my seam allowance and then to press open. I understand the concept that I need to sew at the very edge of each side to prevent it from unraveling. But, what type of stitch am I supposed to use for this?

And this site has other good articles for beginners.
Thanks ladies!
Here is some info on how to finish raw seams. Hope this gives you more ideas for future sewing projects.
I've used a zigzag, but you need to have plenty of allowance. If not, the fabric will roll & bunch. Try using a zigzag stitch and trim off excess.
