sewing with felt. have questions

Is there a difference between felt that is sold by the yard on a bolt vs felt squares you can buy in a pack?? I need to sew on a little felt applique to my daughter's shirt and got the felt squares because it was all i needed. But now I wonder if it'll wash ok, etc?!

I would buy it from a fabric store so you can read the fibre content tag(s). I wouldn't take a chance on dollar store felt for kids crafts if it is something special you are making.
