You can absolutely construct a garment with it. It's great with stretch fabrics and anything else not too thick for the needles to penetrate. When you get more familiar with your serger, you'll find all kinds of stuff that you can do with it. Have you tried gathering with it? Learned to do a rolled hem? decorative stitching? all good stuff. Just remember - when you construct a garment with your serger, your seam allowances become very, very small and don't allow for a lot of adjustment after sewing.
