I was going to make this shirt for my husband's Halloween costume, but found that I really like the look and the fit of it for other uses. I used Burda 8471. I had never made a shirt like this before, so it was a bit of a challenge, learning new things, and relearning some things too, but I think I did a pretty good job. It was really easy to follow the pattern instructions. The illustrations show what it is supposed to look like when finished with that part of the instruction. For a lot of it, I had to pull out my books and practice a little before actually doing it. The only really frustrating thing was that the pattern called for fusible interfacing, which of course bubbled on me while pressing.

The fitted instead of boxy look of the shirt is what I really like. I made the sleeves a little long as it was for the costume, but he likes them that way too. Next time, I will make them shorter. He wants me to make another one in a nicer fabric. I used a cotton shirting fabric that I got at JoAnn's. The collar is pretty big, and thus I don't think my husband will ever wear it out of the house. Is there a way that I can fix this on the finished shirt??

I have attached pics.

Wow! Who cares if he wears it out of the house. He looks great in it. All you have to do is reduce the collar size. Shorten the width. I don't think you should shorten the sleeve lenght by very much - a too short sleeve is way worse than a too long sleeve. I think you did a great job. He looks great in it. I wish we could see his face. LUCKY GIRL!
Ha Ha. I agree. Great job.
LOL LAurie!!!!!!!!!!!!! bbadddd
Thanks. I really can't set in sleeves that well. The pattern instructions have you sew the sleeve cap in first, before sewing the sides of the shirt together, then sew the sides and the sleeve together all at once. I think that's much easier than trying to set in sleeves the other way.
