What a beautiful dress!
I have not made this dress, but I have worked with chiffon. Since it is slippery, placing tissue paper under the fabric before cutting ( pinning as nec) keeps the fabric from shifting. You can also sew the seams with the tissue still attactched and the feed dogs will be better engaged to keep the stitched from puckering.
Good luck!
I have sewn with chiffon...it's been a long time...but I remember you have to be careful with chiffon...it's very sheer!!! I think I used tissue paper on seams and then tore it away to keep the seams from puckering..but that was years ago...probably have new stuff now I didn't know about then....If washable...a stabilizer might help with seams/hems... You will have to have a lining??? slip??? or something under I would think...Does the pattern suggest that?

Wow, what a beautiful dress! I haven't worked with chiffon since I was a teen, I think I didn't particularly care for working with it so never used it again....Good luck. would love to see photos of the finished product! Bet it will be beautiful!
Thanks for the pointers! I LOVE this pattern and am happy to have an occasion to make it for myself. I haven't looked over the instructions too thoroughly, but it is lined, which will also be silk, and it calls for a close-fitting foundation with boning. I have worked a bit with boning, but it has been a while. I'm not too intimidated by the chiffon...I just know Vogue patterns can be a bit complicated at times, and seam ripping chiffon can be basically disastrous. I plan to just relax and take my time...no rushing on this baby. I am eager to do some fabric shopping!
Hi MS
- have you bought the fabric yet? it will need to be very soft and have a LOT of 'drape' for this dress to work - and I'd suggest:
1- covering your work area with a sheet - it will help keep the fabric from sliding off the surface, just be careful not to cut into the sheet!
2- Keep lots of scraps for testing your tension, stitch width, etc.
3- take you time - don't try to rush or work when you're tired.
I haven't made this pattern, but I used to do wedding dress alterations and veils. The sheet is a big help.
post pics of your progress. if your measurements match the pattern measurements and you don't have to make any changes to the pattern, it should fit you well.
