Normally when it comes to reality shows like “Project Runway,” “Top Chef” and “American Idol,” I don’t come in to each episode wishing for someone I don’t like to return.

Normally, I just save that sort of energy for the people I do like because sometimes, as in the case of “Runway’s” Chris March, eliminated folks I love do make a glorious return (and nearly win, thank you very much!).

But Thursday night I sat on my couch doing something a bit unusual: Wishing for the return of Malvin, he of the unisex avant-garde weirdness, who was sent packing for being, well, kind of weird, avant-garde and unisex during a very non-unisex, weird or avant-garde challenge (pregnancy wear). He, like episode one’s Ari Fish of Kansas City, was sent packing in favor of Mitchell, a guy with more one-liners in his pocket than ability in any areas important to a reality fashion competition like focusing and, I don’t know, sewing... read on!

Yes! I have to agree with this blog in its entirety! Finally Mitchell was out and I wonder if the judges realized their previous mistakes of letting this guy stay. I do think that maybe they made a mistake of not having someone on the judging panel who knew how to sew for the pregnancy wear challenge. Or did they? It seemed that they were all from fashion with no background in quality sewing. That does not mean that I did not like the judges, it is just an observance.
As far as having a favorite designer, I do not. It seems the work at this point is very plain and not very creative. However, if Malvin had not been voted off he would be the one most likely to have the potential to "WOW" me. I do hope the show steps it up and gets those creative juices flowing!
In the Beginning it was mentioned upfront that Most Important is "Craftsmanship and Style." That let Mitchell out in the end - 3 strikes. Teams: not many designers on PR like this. The first look was a beach/surfer look and the second was to be ensemble but avante guarde. The two people Qristyl and Epperson have craftsmanship and style individually, however, their miscommunication (arguing) was obvious in their work. Max Azria, a visiting judge, mentioned that 'if you can't get along in a team situation, you can't be a designer.'
Macrame was used by 2 designers and it went over very well with the judges. It shows a unique and different way to view designing. The judges critique (for us) is helpful, both what they like and what they don't like, in understanding their decision. PR is less about arguing so far this season. It was wonderful to see 2 teams (4) each of the designers getting along, supporting each other and that the designing was most important.
