Talk of a dual crown follows the Fashion Week runway show, but after a prolonged debate, Michael and Nina get their way

By Missy Schwartz

I am aghast. As I sit here at 11:16 p.m., the minutes piling up before I get to go to bed and try to forget the travesty that was tonight’s finale, I am at a loss as to what to say. Other than this: Project Runway has betrayed me. Nina and Michael have betrayed me. No, they’ve betrayed us, we the faithful Runway nuts who have stuck with the show through thick and thin, even when it went off the rails in L.A... read on

I thought Gretchen's collection was boring - and WHO would wear those shorts? Looked like undies to me!
I voted for Mondo myself. But... what do I know?
In the end, life consists of much more important things - relationships, and this show taught me how NOT to be ... that's for sure!
amen.
Oh where to start? When Gretchen's collection came on stage I was so bored that I got up in the middle of it and left the room to put some finishing touches on halloween costumes. No worries, I thought as I watched the following collections with Andy and Mondo. Mondo totally has this one! Only to find out that Gretchen wins! What did I miss in her collection that was so awe inspiring? I had to watch the show again when it did its repeat later that evening and for the world of me can not figure out why she won. I could care less about all the drama that took place or didn't take place, but these clothes of Gretchen's reminded me of the childrens clothing line Garanimals. Also, it was apparent to me that through out this season that Nina's taste was skewed at times and old fashion. Not what you expect for a fashion magazine editor. Then MK really needs to step outside his comfort zone of black, the very thing he rags the designers about all of the time, and introduce some personality into his clothing. Maybe Mondo could help him out there?
Anyway, Mondo is declared the winner overwhelmingly by public opinion and deserves a re-vote!
Throughout this whole season, I have watched as Gretchen bashed Michael C. whenever he won a challenge. Her opinions were almost always off the mark every time. I can't imagine what has happened behind the scenes, but clearly we are not privvy to information that generated this decision. Gretchen has created ho-hum looks and some okay things. Did she perhaps win because of what Tim Gunn had chastised about earlier on? We'll never know. What I can clearly see is that Mondo was robbed. His designs more than any of the others would translate into wearable clothing as well as high couture. Mondo introduced color into the fashion world like no one before has. And his expertise in mixing patterns, colors and texture is absolutely incredible. I have enjoyed this program for some years now, but clearly this program has morphed into one that focuses more on the drama than on the construction and design. I want to see a fashion show where we are taught through each designers eyes, their process from design to execution. I don't want to continue to watch a "social experiment" where the people who would get the most out of the program are psychiatrists, psychologists and yentas. Give us some substance, PLEASE!

Mondo will be remembered long after this travesty. In times like this I always think of the runners-up that become more famous than the winners. Mondo, here's to you and your continued success. Surely someone in the fashion world out there sees his talent and value and will hire him. He's got more talent in my opinion than most of the other designers out there. Just look at the trash you see in Vogue, and you'll know that Mondo was robbed of this win. Wish we could all contribute $5 to the guy and he'd have more money than Michael Kors!
Mondo and Michael C were robbed! I don't know of anyone that would purchase Gretchen's ready- to- wear clothing, and besides, since when are runway shows supposed to be ready-to-wear?!? RTW is derived from runway looks, not be the runway looks!

Go Mondo! Go Michael! Go Andy! Your stars will still shine brightly, and you will have earned all of it. Not have it handed to you as a prize from a TV show. As someone on another message board said- Nina and Marie Claire may have Gretchen, but Anna Wintour and VOGUE will have MONDO!
I am totally in shock. Gretchen doesn't not have what it takes...she is a person who will step over others to get what she wants. I don't think I will be watching season 9.
After much thought and consideration. I must say that although I absolutely do not agree with the decision I have come to the understanding of why they chose Gretchen as the winner. My viewpoint is that they wanted to have a designer that is more commercial, more accessible for the average consumer. With Michael Kors lines being offered at Macy's, Issac Mitzirahi at Target etc, etc. having a PR winner in local stores creates more interest and exposure.
Hopefully in the future seasons of PR they will get over this thought and go back to the original concept fashion design, uniqueness, and style.
As for myself I would not wear one design that Gretchen ever created. There was no inspiration in any thing she designed, not one technique that I would even want to try to learn.
Mondo was an inspiration. The mixing of fabric prints and textures are inspirational and something I would love to do with such confidence. As for Michael C I was late in the game of having the opportunity to see is line. I will have to watch it when it airs again. Andy's line was beautiful as well but I do think he limited himself along the lines of to much of the silver/gray color story. He needed to punch it up a little more. His creations were beautiful regardless and I would wear some of his pieces.
In addition to all this as for Mondo coming to close to being to costumey "NOOOT...." How many times have we seen runway shows that are over the top but the designs being totally wearable with simple editing. Like they never edit or change/alter the designs for the masses. Such falderal being spewed out by Nina and Michael. I will continue to be a PR fan regardless of the choices that the judges make. It is all about the contestants and what the have to offer.
Yes you are right, these contestants should have our support. I am not happy but will continue to support the contestants.
