I'm hoping that someone has already made this and knows what to do. I'm a novice and I really wanted to make this cute little dress for my daughter. But I don't understand how the two front pieces are to go together. The top part has a straight bottom where you need to sew, the bottom skirt portion is curved. Am I supposed to sew the top piece along the curve of the bottom or what? I am confused!

Here is a link to the pattern instructions.

I know that I need to attach it but how. I did a straight stitch across attaching both pieces together but now that piece is shorter than the back. I must be doing something wrong.
I read the pattern. It says to cut the skirt lining shorter than the the main skirt.
If one is shorter perhaps you have the pieces mixed up . This could easily happen if you are useing the same fabric for the lining. I understand your frustration. The seam ripper was my friend for many years.
Keep us posted on your progress.
Without seeing the picture it seems that you just might have to gather the skirt top in order to make it straight to sew to the straight bottom of the top.
Sorry I just saw the picture and I see what you mean about the top. The outside of the pattern is the top and the other is the lining. I think sometimes that we have to walk away from it for a bit and go back when we are refreshed. It usually comes together and we "Get Light"if you know what I mean.
Liana,

Yes sew the bottom of the yoke (top of the bodice) to the top of the skirt. It appears to be a little curved and will give the skirt a little fullness and shape. You may want to sew a gathering stitch (long stitch) to ease in any fullness. Pin the center of the yoke seam to the center of the skirt seam as well as each end and all you may need is a gentle tug to even up the edges and stitch the seam. Enjoy!

Hi,
If you're referring to Pattern "A" (bodice front) yes you have to sew "A" to "B" (Skirt)
"A" has a flat bottom while "B" has a curve you're right, it does look weird but when you sew it it makes sense. Remember that the seam allowance for this pattern is 1/2". I just printed the pattern and taped it together, when you sew it the front does look like it's smaller than the back but it only "looks" that way remember that the shoulder straps are going to flap over to the front and the front piece has the neckline that is going to be lower than the back. Let us know how it comes out. I also agree with taking a break from it and letting go of the frustration =)
OOHHH! Thanks! That sounds right to me.

Yes I did take a break and have been making a few small practice projects to get my confidence back up.

Hopefully I will have time tomorrow, if not this Saturday to have another go at it. It's my first dress and want to make it for my daughter though I know she won't fit into it until next summer.

I'll keep you guys posted and thank you and to everyone who has tried to help!
If anyone is going to make it too I'd love to see how it turns out, I like looking at other peoples completed projects.
ugh, okay I am giving up on this project. There is just not enough information and pictures for me in the instructions to give me a good understanding of how this is supposed to go together. Maybe one day when I have a lot more experience it will make more sense but right now it doesn't.
don't give up!!

i'm trying to understand you problem ... are you not lining up the edge of the curved seam with the straight seam (like just pinning it on straight and following the top part? ... that would make it shorter in the back than the side seams)

if you are frustrated from not clear enough instructions, i HIGHLY recommend youcanmakethis.com ... they have ebooks and the patterns are great and the instructions include LOTS of pictures. i just bought http://youcanmakethis.com/info/featured-products/Portrait-Peasant-T... ... she makes it SO easy! (i found it to be too much, but i can see how it would be excellent for a beginner)
Hi.
Thank you I will check out the site.

I guess I am going to have to take pictures of it and post them up here so everyone can see what I am talking about. I'll try doing that either today or tomorrow.
don't give up. I've created a tutorial in power point and was waiting for a response from the pattern creator but no luck so I will try and upload it and if she responds and asks me to take it down I will. I hope this helps, Choose IE to open it and it'll go on it's own. If not just let us know exactly what it is that you don't understand.
keep us posted =)

WOW! Thanks a ton! That's awesome. I'll take a stab at it again some time this week. I'm going to become best friends with my seam ripper because I was really really not doing it right at all. Thank you so much!

I did make a jumper, after getting frustrated with this pattern. I took an old t-shirt and made it into a jumper. It made me feel a lot better about my sewing skills. It was my first time refashioning a t-shirt.
