Hi everyone, I am new to this group. Well, I have actually never participated in something like this and I am excited to join you all. I sew clothing for my 4 year old daughter, well 4 1/2 year old to her, and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how to add a double ruffle or triple ruffle on pants for a boutique effect. Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi-
You make them by adding strips between each ruffle. You can kinda get the idea from this picture. When she stands, you won't be able to see the strips.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me! Do you sew on a ruffle with a longer strip underneath it and then sew another ruffle to it with the longer strip underneath? I have never understood how to do it! Originally, I thought maybe you made the pants and then added the ruffles to the outside, and that did not seem so fun to do. Thanks for the picture too.
no ... the piece that is sewn between the ruffles would be the same length and the bottom hem of the pants (no gathering!)

so ... you would have the pants pattern then sew on the ruffle and the straight piece (the ruffle would be sandwiched in beteween the non-gathered pieces -- the right side of the pants to the right side of the ruffle and the right side of the straight piece would face the wrong side of the ruffle). you would also need to have them sewn in a circle (both the inseam and the sideseams sewn together) so the ruffles hang loose. and then you would sew another ruffle onto the other end of the straight piece. (right side to right side). (if you wanted a triple ruffle you would just add another straight piece with the 2nd ruffle)

you would also want the straight piece to be a bit shorter than the ruffle (so if your ruffles are 3" then you would want the straight piece to be like 2.5"

does that make sense?!
Hello Paige! Here is a website with a nice little tutorial to help you along: http://jumpupanddown.typepad.com/jumpupanddown/2008/04/a-tutorial-r...

I would love to see the finished result. Maybe you could post pictures? Good luck and Happy sewing!
