I've always loved Burda for kids. My mom used to make my oldest son the nicest things from Burda patterns.

I live in a remote community so what ever I get my hands on, when I go into the city the nearest 6 hrs away I usually go to the thrift store and pick up used patterns. Or I shop a walmart and fabric stores and stock up. my friend sews to, so we exchange patterns.
I agree on using the Burda patterns for children.
Their clothing is more fashionable than the others.
I haven't tried Burda, but will give them a try. I use and enjoy Children's Corner patters. The best part is that the different components (collars, sleeves, etc) are interchangeable.

Hi Sue

I have always heard that the patterns from that company run small That is the hardest thing for me-sizes- the grandchildren are not near me - so I have to keep asking what size my daughter is buying for them at the present. The oldest is going to start school soon and I want to make school clothes=she is a stringbean and the pants don't fit even though I put elastic in them

Hi Eileen,
I think that the patterns do run a tiny bit small. I have made samples of the different sizes out of some inexpensive muslin and have the moms I sew for. They have their children try on the clothes to see which size fits best. I would say that for the most part, the size their children wear corresponds with the Children's Corner Pattern size. I have noticed that the shorts and pants are sometimes too roomy and I have adapted the pattern size by taking off 1/2 to 1 inch off the side seams and 1" off the top. Hope this helps.

I like adapting vintage patterns As far as new patterns the last I used was simplicity 4760 for the shirt. I must say the size fitted perfectly and the explanations were very clear

I love the patterns from YCMT (You Can Make This). Even though they are E-patterns, they can be printed and used just like a reg. pattern. The directions are very easy to follow and you can always contact the Author via email for help.
I have always loved Children's Corner. The YCMT are great too - some of my favorites. Potabella Pixie is quickly moving to hetop of my list, though!!!
I'm looking for plus size patterns for children. Does anyone have a suggestion?
I really like the You Can Make This Site. You can find a lot of the same patterns commercially though.
They have really cute ideas.
Hi All! I just joined this group. I have 7 children, only 5 still at home. My first 5 are girls, and I've always sewn for them. My last two are boys, and now that they're not toddlers anymore...6 and 8yrs., I'm having a hard time finding patterns for them. I understand that boys' clothing may seem so much more basic than girls', but besides boxers, pajama pants, and a pair of dress pants, I haven't seen much. I have copied patterns from clothes before, and I'm doing that now, but I'd love to see more patterns for boys. Anyone in the same situation, or have a tip on some good boys' patterns? :)
I'm a new member..just joined and already loving this forum! I like Ottenbre children's patterns and the current magazine does have some plus sizes for girls. They also always have some cute boy patterns in every issue. Francy
