I finished the wedding cake card box for my son's wedding and posted a photo of it. It's the first one I have ever done. It was quite a project but was also a lot of fun. Now, I need to get back to the tote bag for my future daughter-in-law. I am also going to make her a clutch purse to match her wedding gown. Also, have been making pom poms. Those are a lot of fun to make and are turning out quite well.

Hi, I am Grandma Tooty, (16 grands). our youngest son is getting remarried in August 2010. I will make the wedding dress and two flower girl dresses. I think it is an honor to be asked by our new daughter in law to make her dress. I will keep you all posted on how things are going

Hello Everyone,

My name is Vicki and I just joined this group. My youngest son is getting married May 15th and I am currently making several things for the wedding. I am making my future daughter-in-law a ruffled tote to carry her stuff in to the church. I am also going to make her a satin clutch that will match her dress. Also working on a wedding cake card box. Just got the hat boxes primed today. I will tell you about the rest of the projects as I get to them.

My 22 yr old daughter has FINALLY asked me to make her a dress for a wedding of a friends she is attending. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any ideas or patterns for a young plus size that she would be comfortable to wear. She usually does not wear dresses and is self conscious about her weight........I would appreciate it very much

my step daughter can not decide on a wedding dress made by me or a store bought dress, The wedding is next august and I've already told her I need to start the dress as soon as possible, at least the muslin part of it. I'm going nuts trying to figure out how long it will take.

I have made a couple of wedding gowns. I have a book called Bridal Couture by Susan Khalje that I found invaluable. I first made the gown, according to her instructions, out of inexpensive muslin and used that as the pattern for the finished dress. The dresses I made were interlined as well as lined. I loved the experience of making my first bridal gown, and loved the finished product. The bride said that it was incredibly comfortable even with the boning.

I also suggest buying some really cheap fabric and making a trial dress first. That way you will have a better understanding of the best way to assemble it and find out if there are any sewing challenges to overcome. Also, you can use it for a first fitting to make sure it is the right size. I'm sure everyone has found out its easy to make something smaller, but almost impossible to make something bigger!

Hi, I would suggest purchasing some good quality satin and lining. This will make a great difference in how the gown hangs and presses. You should at least double the price. If the material, (zipper, boning, bra inserts , include what you use) total comes to $100, then charge $100 to make it. Good luck Tooty

I have a small sewing business, working out of my home sewing for others. I haven't narrowed my sewing projects down to doing only certain things, which several people have recommended. But, I have recently gotten a request to do a wedding gown. It's simple, without beading or lace, but it is a gown none-the-less. The prospective client showed me a photo, so I don't have a pattern yet. But, I really have no idea how to estimate/price this. I am excited at the idea of doing this, I think it would be fun. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me, ha! Any ideas would be appreciated. :) Thanks.
