Lynne Demeter posted a thread inquiring about a fabric swap, to see how much interest there might be in one. We have enough interest to warrant coordinating the swap. A swap consists of a group of participants who all send an agreed upon amount of fabric to another participant via mail. To keep postal expenses down we suggest no more fabric than what you would be able to get inside a 9x12 envelope. This swap will be of ten, ten inch squares of 100% cotton fabric. (If you are not a quilter and the squares are not something you can use, we will be having a garment fabric swap in the very near future.)

I had any and all participants join this particular group, apart from the quilting group so that I could address you all at one time via email, or here on the board. It keeps the swap organized for you and for me. It helps to show everyone who is participating in the swap(s) as you can see the group members to the right of the group's main page. Thank you for taking the extra time to help me keep the swap organized.

Here are some basic ground rules for this swap:

  • 100% cotton fabric only
  • pre-wash and press if you have any pets or smoke
  • cut your squares as accurately as possible!
  • sign the back of one :)
  • you can send a variety of different prints & solids
  • enclose a card or note to say hello, letting your swap partner know who you are.
  • if you use a nickname here at swn, please indicate that
  • the person you are sending to, is not necessarily the person shipping TO you.
  • NEVER use the mailing address of your swap partner for any other reason without permission, keep it private.
  • IMPORTANT: send your fabric out by the deadline.
  • get a tracking number for your shipment, in case it gets lost and so I can track it. please put your tracking number in a safe place in your sewing room, in case we need it.
  • Should the package not arrive in a reasonable amount of time depending on the destination, I will ask for the tracking number. If you don't have a tracking number and the package does not arrive within 14 days after I have asked for the tracking number, your account at Sew-Whats-New.com will be closed. To avoid having your account closed, you can re-send a second package and submit the tracking number to me the day it goes into the mail system.
  • If I am unable to get a response from you regarding the swap, your shipment, etc, your account at Sew-Whats-New.com will be closed within 14 days of my last attempt to reach you. I've run many swaps in my years working online and believe me the rules above are necessary. It's a very sad occurrence when a swap partner does not receive their package because their partner opted out. Now I need your shipping addresses! PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR MAILING ADDRESSES ON THIS PAGE, OR ON MY PUBLIC PROFILE. Please send me a PRIVATE message here at SWN, with:
  • your full name
  • your mailing address
  • any colors you prefer (not guaranteed to receive)
  • any preferences to a swap partner's location. i.e. if you do not want to ship over the border, or perhaps you'd like to swap with someone in Europe. I'll do my best to accommodate everyone the best I can. Happy Swapping!
