This is especially directed at Carolyn, since you've undoubtedly worked with brocades. But everyone feel free to chime in. I am making a choli (Folkwear #144)- cropped backless top, wrap front, sleeves with gussets, tie back - from a polyester/nylon brocade I got at JoAnn. First of all I'm looking for hints about the raveling issue. Then there's distortion along the bias edges of the front neckline. Then there's my big question - to line or not to line? The fabric is medium weight, prone to fraying and distorts easily. (I know, not the best choice for a dance costume, but it goes with my new turquoise skirt and my brown one, too.) I'm thinking of lining with batiste to give me something a little absorbent next to the skin and stabilize the fabric a bit. Lining will avoid having to narrow hem the front and back edges. Would you line it at all or only line the body, leaving the sleeves and underarm gussets unlined?
