shop around. go to fabric stores that sell machines also. they can answer most of your questions and even offer classes to show how the machines work.

Note: most fabric stores (especially big chain stores) do not have employees who know how to operate the machines & don't offer classes. At least, not in my area of the country. Your best bet is a dealer who has been trained in how to use the machine & has been trained to do repairs. Most fabric stores don't have this option. They may have 1 or 2 employees that know something about the machines but don't really know how to operate them or how to fix them when something goes wrong.

Three years ago I purchased my first sewing/embroidery machine, the Babylock Ellure. Since then I have upgraded to the Ellegante 2. I love it! The store where I bought it is very helpful. I think you would be happy with any of the Babylock machines.

I've joined an Embroidery Club of about 50 women who meet once a month. Many of them have been sewing for years and are a wealth of information. One of them told me her motto is to always buy the best she can afford. I agree completely.

I have a Brother 4000D inv sewing and embroider machine I like it a lot,but I too suggest you buy a machine at a store
that offer classes and keep you up to date with new thing. cause the place I brought my machine offer none of this.
So I go all over trying to learn different thing and I self taught myself through tail and error. Other place I have gone
mainly have classe related to their machine. There so much to learn with home embroidery. But very enjoyable once you get started.

My experience with machines is to buy the absolute best machine you can afford. Even if the budget pinches a bit now it will be worth it in the long run. There is so much to learn about these machines that I would suggest you buy from a store where the owner/trainer is in the store. I recently upgraded to a Husqvarna Diamond based on the fact that it comes with unlimited lessons. The owner is an amazingly gifted fabric artist who is always keen to teach, suggest and share. You will never figure it all out for yourself so find the best machine at the store that can offer you the most after purchase service.

My sister passed away last week and her sons gave me her new embroidery machine. It is one that you use the usb port to embroider with. It is a Singer Futura and I have installed the CD's that came with it and I got it to embroider one time and now the error light comes on. I don't know anything about an embroidery machine and would like to be able to use and make things with it. Right now I have put it away because I am painting on gourds and making birdhouses out of them but one of these days I would like to get it back out and learn how to do it. Just wondered if anyone knew why the error light keeps coming. I know I have something wrong in it someplace and the first time it came on, I discovered I had put the bobbin in backwards.

I have a Singer Futura ifthe foot press lifter is up you will get the error light to come on try turning the machine off and truning back on with lifter down, I joined a Singer Futrue embroidery web site is FuturaEmbroidery@yahoogroups.com they are a great help to any one, and will answer any questions you have good luck, I have always wanted to paint on gourds, is this hard. good luck.
