I do hand redwork/embroidery. It's a project I can always pick up and take with me. I have just finished the Tree Medicously blocks by Lynda Howell at The Stitch Connection. Now to sash, sew and hopefully get togther the quilt sandwich.

Oh ok...All of the discussion threads were about machine embroidery and I thought maybe I was in the wrong place. (Well, maybe I still am...if there is a hand embroidery group, let me know!) I don't do any machine embroidery at all, but I do hand embroider almost every day. Gotta keep my hands busy! lol!

Yes! Yes! Yes! I don't have an embroidery machine, and I absolutely love hand stitching! Afterall, I can take it with me, and I don't know of anyone lugging around a machine..LOL!

I'm a beginner at sewing and embroidery (except for a short stint of cross-stitching in my tweens), but I know I prefer hand embroidery. Sewing machines and I hate each other, and I prefer hobbies/crafts that I can take with me. Hand-stitching something seems to make the whole process much more relaxing and rewarding for me. But like I said, I'm a beginner so I may change my tune later on. ; ) It is good to see that I'm not the only one who prefers to go sans machine too!

Just getting into "hand work" as a way to keep myself busy at night watching TV! HA! Don't even own an embroidery machine and honestly didn't even THINK about that when I joined this group...

Should there BE a seperate group for hand-work - whether it be embroidery, piecing, etc...???

I also like the idea of taking hand-work with me and did so yesterday for a doctor's appt. It was the first time I ever did and I got more done than I thought I would! I even pulled it out at the gas station while hubby was fueling up the car!!! I was working on the Dresden Plate quilt block that I recently posted a photo of...

I just ordered some new embroidery thread called Cosmo. Has anyone tried this? It is used in Japanese embroidery I believe and is supposed to glide thru the fabric like silk. I can't wait to receive it! I purchased it from www.crabapplehillstudios.com if anyone is interested. They have some beautiful embroidery patterns that I have also purchased. I am currently working on some flour sack tea towels (like Gramma used to use!) with embroidery of garden veggies, and trim on the one end.

I have a question on embroidery hoops. Does anyone use a Gripper Frame? Generally they are used for rug hooking, or punchneedle. I have all kinds of different hoops with all kinds of different closures. I STILL can't seem to keep my work drum tight, and am always pulling and re-adjusting. What do you use?

I still love to hand embroider.  It is so relaxing.  I'll put a good book in tape in the CD player and just stitch away. If you find a simple design  that you like (or you're a good artist) you can get an iron on transfer pencil and make your own designs to embroider

I don't do any machine embroidery, all of mine is by hand. What sites do you like to get your patterns from? Also, do you prefer using a light box, tracing pencils/pens, or iron on patterns? Also, question. I don't do too much of the cross stitch anymore, but I thought I would embroidery a cross stitch pattern. Just make the little 'x' instead of a running stitch, etc. Have any of you done that?
