HELP! I've made four quilt tops in the last two months and was starting to machine quilt the first tester on my new quilting frame. So... up goes the ol' Kenmore onto the carriage, everythings ready to go.... I start machine quilting.... and all the tension is so out of whack it makes a horrible mess on the under side. So, since I'm new tho this quilting on a frame... do you normally have to adjust the tension just to use the machine on a frame? I was using a stippling foot.... I don't like my darning foot... feed dogs were dropped... I'm at a loss.... any and all advise is welcome.

Hi Everyone,I just joined this group. My name is Katie and I'm 22 years old and I live in Long Island Bahamas.I started quilting in 2002 when my mom taught me how to make my first quilt. The first quilt I ever made was a watercolor quilt from one of the patterns out of Dina Papas book Quick watercolor Quilts.Shortly after that I started making my first applique quilt from patterns out of 501 Quilt Blocks Book. After I finshed that quilt I started making quilts from Mimi Dietrch book Baltimore Beauties. When I do make quilts as I haven't made many quilts in the last couple of years as I like to do a wide range of crafts I mostly like to make hand applique quilts and machine quilting.Happy Sewing.Katie

I just joined this group and am still learning how to navigate everything. Anyway, My name is Marta, I live in Calif. I have been quilting for quite awhile and have a volunteer group that makes prayer quilts for kids with terminal cancer. I would love it if others would introduce themselves so we can get to know each other a little.

Thanks Jill. This was actually the blocks that were from an advent quilt lessons that JoanneQuilts from the old sew-what-new site did back in 2005. I gave this to my niece...it's her family tree in the block...grandparents, mom, dad, brothers, nieces and nephews.

Mary, I have completed one quilt using a quilt-as-you-go method. It was queen size and I will probably not do it again. I found it too much of pain to put together as it got bigger and bigger. But I was doing a huge quilt and wanted large sashings and borders and it had some odd size blocks. I think it took longer than if I had done it as one whole piece. And I like doing free-motion quilting designs all over the quilt. So from my one experience, Q-A-Y-G is not for me. Here's a pic of the finished front & back

Has anyone tried the "quilt-as-you-go" method? Or reversible quilts? What are your opinions?

Thanks.

I agree with Jill. The books are great. For some reason, I had been avoiding them but picked up the most recent at the library - "The Lost Quilter." I thoroughly enjoyed it and hated to put it down. I have read one other and look forward to reading them all. I love the way the books switch back in time to tell the story of the quilt and quilter.

I recently read the complete series of books by Jennifer Chiaverini & thought my quilting 'friends' might be interested too. The first book in the series The Quilter's Apprentice" is about Sylvia Compson returning to the family estate Elm Creek Manor after an almost 50 year absence with the intention of preparing the Estate for sale. Syliva is an award winning quilter & the young lady she hires to help her organize the Estate is Sarah McLure who wants to learn to quilt. The stories are beautifully written & the characters were interesting - I enjoyed every novel in the series. I was able to get all of them at the local library. If any of you decide to read them let me know what you think!
