Velvet is a woven tufted plush fabric in which the cut threads are evenly distributed, with a short dense pile, giving it a unique soft texture. The word velvety means "smooth like velvet." Velvet can be made from either synthetic or natural fibers and can be made from several different kinds of fibers. The most expensive fiber being silk. Most of the velvet on the market today is sold as "silk velvet" but is actually a combination of silk and rayon.
