Infant Heirloom Day Gown for Mary 2008

Pink 100% cotton batiste. Sewn by hand stitching except for the Madiera applique hem in white cotton batiste over white lace. Features gathers at front neckline which is trimmed in French cotton lace edging. Neck lace is finished with self fabric bias trim to protect tender neck and chin. Sleeves gathered to 1/2 inch French lace edging. Back closes with 3 flat pearl buttons and buttonholes.

I didn't complete bonnet, but I will if the new baby is a girl.
This is the first time I've sewed a dress almost completely by hand.

Mary is being held by our only daughter, Amanda, who lives nearby. We don't, so I didn't get to witness Mary in her dress. I'm glad they took a photo!

Lesson Learned:
Starch fabric heavily and dry before attempting to use wing needle for stitching Madiera applique hem in place. I made a h*** in the outside of the white batiste, lace and pink batiste. I was able to darn the h*** so that it didn't show unless one is looking for it.
