Thank you all so much! Patricia, there is a pattern, but it's an old one . . . by Joan Russell, from the late 60s. It's called Circus Stars to Sew, and it was featured in Woman's Day magazine. There's the pig, a set of horses and a bareback riding lady, a clown, two elephants, and a lion on a tub. I have the original I've saved all these years, and a new-to-me one that I found on either eBay or Etsy. There are copies out there; you just have to keep looking. Sewbusy, the tail is nothing more than a piece of pipe cleaner/chenille stem wrapped in velveteen and sewed on, then curled around a pencil. The ears aren't wired; I gathered them after they were sewn on. In the pattern, they are just plain sticking out from his head, but I wanted them to have a little more character, so I ran a gathering thread through the outside edge and pulled it in until I liked the way they looked.
