oh this is great! I never thought of making my own undies, that is until recently. I was in sticker shock when I went to price some pretty little undies, I can SO do this!! Thanks for sharing this!!

Tawny, these are great ! I'm a petite frame and I have to alter my underwear, which is pretty extreme but ready-to-wear doesn't under things don't come in petite sizes. I have found several sources on the net that carry the foldover elastic 'binding' that makes these soooo comfortable around the legs and torso. Lace Heaven has it and so does HomeSew and Newark Dressmaker. Lace Heaven is primarily lingerie and swimwear so she has all kinds of goodies fro underwear.

There is a book anyone who wants to make lingerie should own. Its from Kwik Sew. You can Google/search for Kwik Sew Lingerie Paterns. It has pictures of finished goods, detailed instructions (with step-by-step pictures) and a master pattern sheet with the pieces in a wide variety of sizes that you can trace for your particular purpose. It's easy enough for the most basic beginner to successfully follow along. Underpants are just the jumping off place. You can make beautiful sleepwear, slips, and even swimwear! Enjoy!!

OK now I have no reason to WHINE. I live in Costa Rica and we have big underwear shops but it always seems that they only carry size 2-6 which I am not. I have been here 10 years. My husband use to bring me bra's from Italy but now he doesn't travel there. Then he brought me some from California but they where 44 DD which I am only a D but luckily I have a gal friend from Texas that the fit, she just loved the leopard one.
So back to the panties my friend have been getting them for me but sometimes my undies are so worn out by the time I can get someone to bring them for me, now I will save my next worn out pair and try making my own.

I love the panties I make my self. I use bathing suit lining and can usually get three pair from a yard of fabric, I'm big you small girls can get more. I took apart my favorite pair of worn out panties traced them added seam allowance tweaked some things I wanted to change traced the final pattern on a peice of plastic drop cloth and now I have a custom fitted pattern I decorate them with embroidery, pieces of lace or what ever else I have on hand. fun to do and that bathing suit lining fabric wears like iron.
