My advice to you is to do what you can with the resources you have. If $ is limited, try a vintage machine with METAL gears. The new gears are nylon and wear down. If you have the $ for new, take a look at the machines. They are portable industrial machines reasonably priced.

I am looking for a reasonable machine that sew lightweight leather, Some one told me I needed to purchase an industrial machine.  I had a change to purchase a old kenmore industrial style machine that is suppose to sew leather but I was really scarce because I didn't want to make that mistake and then have to pay shipping for forty five dollars if it didn't sew leather.  It was an old kenmore but I need advice.  Any suggestions.

Hi Lana, yes I did google it but none of the links were valid. No manuals are actually found on those pages but the machine model is mentioned.  I actually have half of the hard copy manual that came with it, but only half. It's a pretty straight forward machine thank goodness!

You can find the manual and lots of information on Google.  I just typed in Brother Project 181 sewing machine and the manual was first on the listings.
