I only have girls but just off the top of my head here are a couple modifications you could try: You could leave the legs ungathered so they'd look more like shorts, and you could make the chest flat in front and elastic in the back. Instead of elastic straps you could use regular straps with buttons or snaps. Of course leaving off the embroidery and ruffles would help too :P Sorry I can't be of more help but I am sure you could find a boy-specific tutorial out there somewhere :)

Thank you Karen, I will be making it very soon, and will get my daughter in law, in Canada, to take a picture when she wears it. I am in UK so won't see it for a little while except in pictures. Again thank you for taking the time to do this. xx

Judith-- the tutorial is finally up on my blog! I made it for a newborn/0-3 month baby just for Olivia. If you end up sewing one for her post a picture!

It is real linen. I avoided it because I had a similar misconception-- that it'd be stiff and scratchy-- but that was mostly because I had only experienced synthetic linen. 100% linen is actually quite nice to the touch, especially after washing. I pre-washed the fabric to break it in before i started sewing. Baby Girl didn't seem to mind it at all :)

I love the romper design.  Is this really made of linen?  I've always thought linen to be a rather stiff and might be scratchy for a baby.  Just my opinion - the design of the romper is very adorable!!!

Thanks everyone :) Judith-- I don't have an exact pattern as I used a pair of oversized bloomers as the basis. But I will try to think through how I modified the bloomer pattern and post something on my blog that might help you.
