I love making beautiful linens for the home.
But my passion is teaching people how to sew.
- What type of sewing do you enjoy?
- garment, drapery, home decor
- What type(s) of sewing machine(s) do you have?
- hard to start on that one. Last count was about 15 portable sewing machines that I use for teaching. They vary in make and model.
4 straight, 1 buttonholer,1 blind hemmer { all are industrial }
2 regular sergers, 1 industrial serger
1 portable blindstitch
1 portable coverstitch
The makes and models vary.
Singer, Juki, Bernina, Brother, White
My personal machines are Bernina 140, Viking Lily and Singer Featherweight 221, and a Singer 301
- What brands of patterns have you tried?
- Any, but I like to draft pattrerns as well.

Arub said… - hello Karen and thank you. How is it in New Mexico this time of year? I am due to visit friends there this summer if all goes well. I have a website that I am building. I am working some long hours right now and trying to get some comp time in at my part time job by working some pretty long full time hours. I am due in Vermont the 1st of March and will be gone for about 2 months and 1 week. I am so excited about that trip. I get to see my grandchildren adn my children as well as I will be teaching 2 classes with the possibility of a third. I am busy putting lesson plans in order. Happy sewing Arub

- Oh Mary, How are you! I was wondering if you were on here. Things are so different now. But this site is beautiful. I can honesty say I can remember many years ago when I first found sew-what's-new sewing group. So tell me how did this all evolve like this.? What are you doing theses days? At any rate...It is so nice to hear form you. I live mostly in Detroit now with 2 trips yearly back home to Vermont to teach at the career center. I moved my busness to Detroit in June. Carolyn de Leeuw said… - I appreciate your comments about going to the fabric store. I feel that same sense of anticipation when I go to a good fabric store. I was practically dizzy with excitement when I visited Britex in San Francisco. I only wish there were any stores in my city that could come close.
