The better of the two for you, IMO, is "Serger Secrets" from Rodale. It has a lot of high-fashion techniques that would interest you. The other one, "The New Sewing with a Serger" from Singer is a more basic book. I believe I have learned as much from the books as I did in the class. Check out the books and see what you think.

I have done sculpting with polymer clay but have not ventured into porcelain (yet) The skin tone on the dolls is perfect!! Wings for angel and fairy dolls is always a challenge - you did a wonderful job on yours. You truly are an artist!!
