recently i made slip cover out of big remnants i got from curtain shops. It turned out good and soon will upload the picture BUT god knows how many times i had to put it on and off for perfect fit.

I have the Janome 1600P - straight stitich,has a walking foot attachment and a good zipper foot for sewing weltcord. There are some fabrics it will not sew! 8-10 layers when I'm making a slipcover, but most of the time it is a winner! Claudia www.se

Claudia is the owner of Sew What! Custom Home Decor & Slipcovers www.SewWhat4u.com and www.HomeFashionsu.com in Peoria,AZ. Sew What is a retail-wholesale professional workroom that provides custom sewn decor to designers, decorators, and retail clients.

Claudia is an past officer of the Arizona Window Coverings & Design Association, A Window Fashions Certified Professional, Member of WCAA, Member of American Sewing Guild, Drapery Pro and the www.Slipcove Network.com.
She is an experienced seamstress with attendance at workshops including but not limited to the Home Furnishings Industry Educational Conference in Greenville, SC, and the Slipcover Summit in St. Louis, MO. Taught at the 2004 Slipcover Summit in FT Collins, CO. and 2005 Slipcover Summit in Tampa, FL.. Sew What! was the past host of 2006 Slipcover Summit in Peoria, AZ. Just returned from Seattle, WA 2009 Slipcover Summit where I taught a class, How to Start a Sewing Business.

Not All Slipcovers are Created Equal!

Most people like slipcovers that fit as snug as a bug! You may ask yourself why I can't run into a home store and purchase a ready-made slipcover.... they are relatively inexpensive, easy to obtain, etc. However, they are usually one size fits all and rarely achieve a tight fit, so you are fussing with them as much as you are enjoying your new look.

Estimating Fabric for Slipcovers
Making a slipcover for a piece of furniture takes more yardage than upholstery. If you should use an upholstery chart for estimating yardage, you will most likely be short of yardage. Realize that a slipcover is supposed to slip over the piece of furniture, hanging snuggly, but the fabric is not stretched or pulled tautly as in upholstery.
