A New Quilt Goes to A New Home

Posted on September 10, 2012 at 7:00am 1 Comment

Occasionally I make quilts on commission and I am happy to say that I have just completed one such quilt.  The quilt design chosen was my Rainbow Checks quilt pattern.  When I designed my quilt I used beautiful…

Quilting Block Swaps Australia

Posted on August 22, 2012 at 11:13pm 0 Comments

It has been a while since I have updated progress that has been happening in my Quilting Block Swaps Australiaswap group.

Over the last few months I have received some wonderful blocks from my swap partners.  Now I know this would appear to be an Aussie block swap, and yes most of us are Aussies, but not all.  My august swap partner is in Portugal!!

The block my partners make for…

Cushions for Jarred

Posted on July 30, 2012 at 10:51pm 14 Comments

Recently my eldest Son, Jarred, celebrated his 22nd birthday.   He and my Daughter, Chantelle, are sharing a flat (apartment) together in the big smoke - Melbourne (the capital city of Victoria in Australia).  They had recently bought some new furniture for the loungeroom but didn't have any soft furnishings.  So .... what do I do????? Sew of course and soooo it seemed logical to fix that little detail for him.  So quilted birthday cushions were born!…

Loving the Old with the New

Posted on July 23, 2012 at 1:05am 0 Comments

Occasionally, as it comes to me, I do commission work.   Recently I was asked to complete a quilt that had been started but due to time constraints was constantly making its way to the bottom of the 'must do' list.  All the blocks (and there were lots of them!) had been completed as had some of the sashing.…

Who Am I?

Hi. I am Karen Pior and Sew Well Maide is where I wear my business hat. I also have other hats - Mother to five, Wife to one (!!!), Sister, Daughter, Friend. My hats are interchangable or, as frequently happens, worn precariously stacked on top of each other!! I am passionate about all things fabric and textile, in particular patchwork quilts both modern and antique. I love the excitement of designing and stacks of fabric bolts give me a quiet little thrill!  Knitting is my nirvana. The click clack of the needles is both soothing and peaceful. It quietens a busy mind and lulls me into another world full of possibilities or nothing in particular!!! When I hang out on Ravelry and Flickr I am known as Knitting Maide.  When time allows I love reading, veggie gardening, watching tv. And I try to never, ever miss an opportunity to yell and cheer as the football, soccer, cricket and ballet Mum.  I wanted to start designing quilt patterns to sell to help finance my obsessional hobby. I found a real love of the whole design process and have now embarked on a new career (to add to my primary career as a stay at home Mum) as a quilt designer and maker of ready to purchase quilts.Taking the step to put myself out in the world for others to see and comment on my work has been very scary!!! So much of yourself goes into creating and you so hope that others can find something to love about your designs. I hope to be able to share my sewing experiences, both the triumphs and the 'oops perhaps nots', within this new community 'Sew Whats New' that I have discovered.

You are one busy lady, Karen. We all are this time of year I guess. Especially if we are into handmade on line sales. Your work is lovely. You really have a quilting talent. Keep up the good work.
