Hi Lauri.  My sewing room is the conservatory, and living in England that means it cold more often than its hot.  In the winter I either use the little gas heater, or get on with hand embroidery in front of the fire! I love it and my only…

I don't do any machine embroidery, all of mine is by hand. What sites do you like to get your patterns from? Also, do you prefer using a light box, tracing pencils/pens, or iron on patterns? Also, question. I don't do too much of the cross…

I still love to hand embroider.  It is so relaxing.  I'll put a good book in tape in the CD player and just stitch away. If you find a simple design  that you like (or you're a good artist) you can get an iron…

I have a question on embroidery hoops. Does anyone use a Gripper Frame? Generally they are used for rug hooking, or punchneedle. I have all kinds of different hoops with all kinds of different closures. I STILL can't seem to keep my work drum…

I just ordered some new embroidery thread called Cosmo. Has anyone tried this? It is used in Japanese embroidery I believe and is supposed to glide thru the fabric like silk. I can't wait to receive it! I purchased it from…

Just getting into "hand work" as a way to keep myself busy at night watching TV! HA! Don't even own an embroidery machine and honestly didn't even THINK about that when I joined thes group... Should there BE a seperate group for…

I love it and my only problem is finding things that need to be embroidered.  So far it has been my bags.  I am particularly fond of chunky wool embroidery at the moment.  Have you seen the book by Susan Cariello "20 floral bags to make"?  She lives here and I went on a course and met her and then made my pink bag!

LOL! Well, yeah, I guess your mom did give you the name! So do you pronounce it like "Larry", then? Just curious....

And oh my gosh, yes! "Annie" is so great! Allison is 15, almost 16, and she loves "Annie"...she really actually sings...I'm not just saying that because she is my daughter. LOL!! But, everyone has always told me how great she sings, and I was like, Oh, thank you...thought they were just being nice because she sings ALL THE TIME...but her 2nd grade music teacher told me I should have her try out for the Houston Children's Chorus! So I figured, what the heck? So she did. Hundreds, if not thousands, of kids throughout the entire Houston Metropolitan area try out every year, and they only take 200, and that includes all ages from 8-16 (or 18, I'm not sure), and she made it!

ANYWAY...blah blah blah...Claire loves "Annie" also, so, we've been singing and watching "Annie", from VHS to DVD for many years, over and over and over and over again. Even my 12 year old son know all the songs! lol!

Hey Lauri! Glad you were able to find something that worked for Claire. Hand-me-downs are great! My boys share a lot of their clothes. My daughter, Abbi, gets most of my sewing creations since she has no older sisters from which to gain clothing. :o) "Annie" is one of my all-time-favorite musicals. Some of my best memories are singing my heart out to that sountrack on my 8-track player. LOL

PS - I can't take credit for the spelling of my name. My Mom has that honor. She named me after my dad and put the 'i' on the end to make it more girlie :o)

Lauri...I have Simplicity 8048 in my stash. It was given to me. Do you want it? It's opened, but I think uncut. If you want it, I'll check to make sure all the pieces are there. It's sizes 5,6,7,8

This video demonstrates how to fix / adjust / repair the timing of the hook on a sewing machine. If the thread from your needle isn't getting caught by the hook that rotates around, this video explains what to adjust to fix that. Requires some very basic tools and takes 15-30 minutes - maybe less.
