I have been sewing for about 46 years and sew almost every day. I make lots of items - pillowcase dresses, john-johns, bibs, burps, bags, other types of dresses, baby gowns. I love to applique and do hand embroidery from vintage patterns. I do a lot of iron on appliques. I work from home and am so glad to be here.

Well then perhaps I will give it a go. My personal favourite is the cowboy boot! You certainly choose lovely fabrics to work with too. Thanks for sharing.
I love applique too, and am presently making yet more aprons for my niece's boys as they have grown out of the first ones! I mainly do woven fabric, as I was under the impression putting woven on stretch (i.e. T shirts) the stitches would break when the fabric stretched. Do you use stretch for the applique or does it just not stretch in the middle of the front of a tee? I guess I should just try it but I thought I would ask!
Hi Lynn- I just love your applique items. It would be wonderful if you could share some of your wisdom about how to do this technique so consistently and cleanly. I adore your owls! Thanks.
I use mostly Aunt Martha's transfer embroidery patterns. I get a lot of them on "Pattern Bee" and some on ebay. There are books that teach you the basic stitches, but I imagine you could find instructions on the internet. I love hand embroidery, and it is so simple to do. I make bibs, t shirts, etc. using hand embroidery. I am now finishing up curtains for my kitchen with hand embroidered rock and roll vegetables and kitchen utensils from the 50's. If you type in Aunt Martha's transfer embroidery patterns on google, I think there is a site that sells them. Most of mine I got from Hobby Lobby.
Can you give me some information on the type of hand embroidery of the duck holding the cake and the others like that in your photo galler? I am new to hand embroidery and would love to learn how to do that type. Where would I find patterns, instructions and/or any books on that type? Thanks
