Autumn Awesome-ness

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 5:57am 13 Comments

It's all in the color!! Once again Moda and Sandy Gervais have come through with a beautiful line of fabric. I created this quilt with one charm pack and one jelly roll...plus a little yardage for the borders. Right now my hubby is upset because I took it to work to hang in my office!

ALL MY NEW MINIATURES...

Posted on September 4, 2010 at 5:30am 2 Comments

I've been working on minis for an empty wall in the office/ den. This is "Tree 'O Life" by Piece of Cake Designs. One of my previous quilts used orange and purple and I got alot of comments on how people liked that unlikely combo of colors. This combination of orange and turquoise has been another revelation: "Who knew!" My picture is crooked but the hanging is actally straight...taking photos is not something I'm very adept…

Watching Windmills

Posted on May 4, 2010 at 6:00am 11 Comments

As I've been surfing thru the internet lately I've been noticing quite alot of Windmill quilts being created. I suddenly had a light bulb moment and realized: "I have one of those!"

I made this scrappy windmill about 8 years ago and I titled it "Persistence". Each block is 4" and there are a total of 400 blocks set 20 x 20. I did have some help from my freinds who donated 6" squares so I could keep it as scrappy as possible. I keep…

Tranquility Trail

Posted on March 14, 2010 at 8:28pm 17 Comments

I finished this great wallhanging today! Well, it still needs to be quilted, but I'll do that soon. This design was offered by Moda Fabrics and I used their line of Tranquility fabrics. It has so much movement and color. You can find that pattern here: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/02/off-grid-sliced-nine-patch-quilt.html. It…

MARVELOUS MODAS

I think any of us who quilt like at least some of the fabrics offered by MODA. So, imagine having 480 - 2 1/2" squares from the Moda Bakeshop Sampler to play with. I recently purchased the Sampler and have only used 81 in this wallhanging. I used the brighter colors for this with a dark and light green border (the picture doesn't do the color justice!). Now, that leaves 399 squares… Continue

Since I don't have any local fabric shops I buy almost everything online. My obsession is Moda fabrics and I like to buy charm packs and jelly rolls. I do mostly scrap quilts so this works great for me and I just keep my eyes open for sales.…

Just yesterday I finished a "Ticker Tape" quilted wallhanging. I've been seeing them in alot of blogs so I gave it a try...it was alot of fun. On the other hand I'm working on a bed size batik quilt, so it was nice to do the…

Lynne,
Thanks for your help with the embroidery blocks. I am using a square ruler with non-slip surface. However, it seems that when place over the embroidery, it wabbles a bit and that seems cause me to cut wrong at times. Maybe firmer pressure is needed.

Thanks for the link about the selvages!

And I just have to add...ALL of your quilts are absolutely beautiful! The patterns and projects are great, but I really love the way you put the colors together!

Hi Lynne, I didn't see the comment I left, so I must have done something wrong. I did make the dolls. I've been a dollmaker for about 15 years now. It's just "therapy" for me! Sue

I'm a transplanted northerner too, originally from C.R., Ia. Joined the Navy in 1972 and retired 20 yrs. later. Took up quilting in 1993 and haven't stopped since! On your yo-yos, what size pieces do you need of corals, peaches, pinks and oranges? Have plenty of scraps lying around looking to be shown off in anything. Send my your home address and the size (i.e. 4" x 4") and I'll mail some to you the help complete your throw! I started a mini Grandmothers Flower garden years ago using one of those Keepsake material swatch packets they send you, (over 500 1 1/2" squares all different fabrics including solids). Don't know how many pieces I have in it but it continues to grow cuz it's a great "hands on project" to drag with me when I can't take a larger quilt to work on. Everyone asks how large it's going to be and I smile and tell them, "It will let me know when it's finished."
