Howabout Don't get your finger caught in the machine! I did this about a year ago. I have a 1911 Singer treadle machine that's quite powerful. It went through my nail, finger, and back up before I even knew what happened. I have no idea how my finge…

I just looked at your website and I saw some of your beautiful hemp necklace jewelry. Why aren't you charging more for your work? $5.00!!! Are you kidding me?
Honey...you are soooooo talented and so humble. You are where I was when I started doing alterations, 3 years ago. I thought I shouldn't charge much or else I wouldn't get anymore customers and I'd piss off the ones I DID get, by charging them too much.
I'd pay at least triple what you're charging or more for a handcrafted piece of jewlery. I assume you did the macrame and the bead stringing....not to mention the design thought that went into this!! Did you just wing it or do you draw some things out on paper?
Beautiful stuff, girlfriend.....
That's just my opinion about your underpricing, tho...good luck!
Let's see more!

So what I did was this....I went on the internet and looked up alteration pricing, (for you, it could be macrame jewelry or whatever you would describe it) and see what other folks are charging around the country or what other crafts people charge per hour of labor. Just to get some kind of idea. Then average it all out...
I know when I go even to a Target store and happen to see a macrame piece of jewelry hanging with all their other manufactured stuff, it's not selling even there for $5.00! Unless it's on sale...
Try $15.00 or so...
Like I said before...I think it's worth more than you think and if it is handmade people DO appreciate the hard work that goes into it, even IF you can tie the knots with your eyes closed! It's still your fingers that are doing it, and your imagination that's creating it.
You don't have to get out of hand with your pricing but you DO have to appreciate yourself. It takes time to do that...unfortunately a lot of women think that they're being too pushy if they expect too much for themselves or are more assertive in their pricing schemes. A good book to read is: "Pricing Without Fear; A Sewing Enterpreneurs Guide", by Barbara Wright Sykes. I know it says 'sewing' in the title, but the 1st page of the 1st chapter talks about being afraid to price and i really got a lot out of it, overall.
Good luck!!

thanks! just wish I could get around to marketing myself properly, but I hate all that stuff! Trudging round galleries and shops is awful.......when I could be sewing!
