Latest Excitement!

If I have money to burn, I like JoAnn's. I buy my non-pilling fleece (for monkey making) there and they always have loads of it on hand. My favorite source for the rest is charity shops. They have vintage fabrics that I can't find anywhere else. A...

Margaret, I did not have funds for lessons, either. I took free classes at my library. If you want to learn basics, you may be able to find something similar at a community center or library in your area. Also, our local yarn shop has sit and knit...

I have mastered the basic knit stitch but cannot comprehend how to purl stitches. I like to knit prayer shawls for my church & would like to improve my knitting skills but don't have funds for lessons. Are there any tutorials that you can recommend?

Profile Information

About Me:
Retired in 2001 after 26 yrs with TN Dept Children's Services. Have been sewing since age of 7 and come from a long line of seamstresses. In college, I studied tailoring. Besides sewing, I love machine embroidery, needlework and photography plus collecting sewing books. In March, 2009 I started a sewing ministry within my church to do clothing repairs & alterations in exchange for a donation to the church. I also volunteer by teaching sewing to those who cannot afford to pay for lessons. I also have been helping the UMNC in their Refugee Economic Independence Program by working on donated machines to get them running. Even though, I have to use a wheelchair, I like to share my love of sewing with others. I am president of the Memphis Chapter of the American Sewing Guild.
