WOW!!! That is incredibly beautiful and I'm in awe that you did it all by hand. I wish I could feel it! =)

Handmade kimono silk quilt

I made this completely by hand, while living in Japan, using vintage kimono silk fabrics.

Profile Information

About Me:
I was born and raised in Sweden, studied in Switzerland and England, worked in Holland, Spain and Belgium, and lived 12 years in Japan, before moving to the US. While in Tokyo, I fell in love with vintage kimono and obi fabrics and started collecting. I have used some fabrics in quilts, but when returning to the US last year, I started to design and sell greeting cards using these beautiful fabrics. Each design is hand cut which is quite time consuming, but it also makes them unique, since not two cards look the same, due to the changing patterns of the kimono. Mona, thank you for compliementing the picture quilt! I made this for a customer that brought her pictures with her. I had to Photoshop a few of the pictures due to age and the weding photo was torn down on the bottom right all the way to her dress. She wanted this wallhanging done for her husband for their aniversary. And she wanted the photo's sewn on top of the material instead of pieced into other material. Customers always get what they want.

I love the card you left me, and I see that you have a web page. Just from the slide show I can see you are very talented. Your work is just awsome!

I've not adventured much into the silk realm yet, it's something I would definitely like to try in the future. I love your shop! Very gorgeous :)

Hi Mona, You asked about sewing on slippery fabrics like silk. Well I use a walking foot. And also a straight stitch foot and straight stitch template that has a single hole instead of a wide opening, but I have to remember to change it when I do zigzag sew because I always break the needle.

This video demonstrates how to fix / adjust / repair the timing of the hook on a sewing machine. If the thread from your needle isn't getting caught by the hook that rotates around, this video explains what to adjust to fix that. Requires some very basic tools and takes 15-30 minutes - maybe less.
