Can a sweater be shortened?

Thumbnail
I have a cute cardigan sweater I like but it is way too long...actually it is supposed to be long, around mid thigh I'd say. I realize now that it is not flattering, but would be if it were several inches shorter. Can I remove the bottom ribbing, shorten the body and then reattach the ribbing? I'd just give it a shot, but I'm afraid I'll ruin it.Any ideas? Thanks,NancySee More

Refashion & Recycle

The great thing about recycled and refashioned clothing is the way that old clothes, styles and fabrics inspire the designers to create something gorgeous and new.

Be sure you visit a dealer and do ask lots of questions. Ask about classes to teach you how to use your machine. By what you can afford but make sure you get a good quality machine to eliminate frustration and make sewing something you really can…

I just recently purchased a BabyLock A-line Grace series and love that machine. It easily sews over heavey fabric and is easy to operate.

Sewing Machine advice

Hi All! I am new in here, because I have decided to re-learn how to sew. First off I will be needing a new machine and I really don't want to spend a whole lot...around 400 to 500 euro. I live in Austria, that explains the euro bit.

I'll be sewing clothes for my brand new granddaughter! I am also teaching myself with aid of videos, how to hand smock. A friend in San Fransisco sent me her pleater. How cool is that. Anyway...I don't need the machine to do lots of fancy things, but it should… Continue

This video demonstrates how to fix / adjust / repair the timing of the hook on a sewing machine. If the thread from your needle isn't getting caught by the hook that rotates around, this video explains what to adjust to fix that. Requires some very basic tools and takes 15-30 minutes - maybe less.
