Hello from Metairie, LA. Good luck with sewing lessons. Sometimes JO ANN Fabrics or Hancock Fabrics offer classes for minimal fees. If either of these stores are reasonably close you might want to check them out.

- Am a newbie to garment sewing. Have made 2 quilt tops and am starting my 3rd. I desperately wish to learn to sew garments. There aren't any classes close to me and therefore and learning very slowly from my mother.

- Haven't sewn any yet but have bought lots of Vogue and McCalls. Hit the Hancock's store for the $0.99 sale on the McCalls and $3.99 for the Vogue.

This video demonstrates how to fix / adjust / repair the timing of the hook on a sewing machine. If the thread from your needle isn't getting caught by the hook that rotates around, this video explains what to adjust to fix that. Requires some very basic tools and takes 15-30 minutes - maybe less.
