Cheryl commented on the blog post 'Sewing with crinkled fabrics'
I have made table toppers with crinkle fabric for my daughter's beach themed wedding reception.  The larger tables I just sewed a square with a tight rolled hem with my surger and placed large shells with flowers and candles. And for small…

What is the fiber content?  Construction?  If a knit - just leave it cut! If a woven - I agree with the first response to roll hem it - but some more info would be helpful to tell you what I would really advise.

Erika, Thanks for commenting about sewing with crinkled fabric-I still haven't tackled that piece of fabric.  To reply about my Vogue dress, I used crepe backed satin.  I went on to complete the dress, and the drape of the front panel…

Hi Jodie, Thanks for adding me as a friend.  I, too, viewed your photos and enjoyed your creations.  I often think that if I wasn't working, I could sew so much more.  I have some alterations to do for my sister-in-law and then,…

About Me:
I've been sewing on and off since I joined 4-H at age 7. When our youngest child was about 8, I started sewing for others an began a long-time relationship with one customer. She kept me busy year round making everything from curtains to flower-girl dresses over the next 20 years. My customers increased by word-of-mouth and I've enjoyed every project. My latest was 5 bride's maids dresses and a flower girl's dress from scratch, not just altered, while working full time.
As the clothing industry changes, I find it increasingly difficult to find good fitting clothing without a lot of altering; so I've been making more of my own. Alterations and repairs are always necessary for my husband who works outside. He,too, finds good fitting, ready-made clothing difficult to find.
What type of sewing do you enjoy?
garment, drapery, home decor, embroidery
What type(s) of sewing machine(s) do you have?
All purpose Singer stylist (1978) and a Singer Scholastic (2003)
What brands of patterns have you tried?
No preference, mostly I used Simplicit & McCalls.

Well, I've calmed down a little now...hoped the dress would be finished for my event on June 4.  It wasn't.  I want to thank whoever added the photo of the pattern, that was great.  And I hope to add a photo of my dress soon.  I'm 99% sure I cut the pieces on the bias as the grain lines were marked.   The front of my dress looks pretty much like the pattern.  The front flap doesn't attach under the 'flounce', so that makes a really long slit...It's the back that doesn't quite look the…

Vogue Pattern 1014 Help!

Posted on May 20, 2011 at 8:00pm 14 Comments

I am making this dress in crepe back satin, (suggested fabric) but the flounce doesn't drape as nice as in the picture.  Would pressing it with steam help?

The asymmetrical lines caught my eye.  Has anyone else sewn this pattern?
