Try a Stencil: Although in manufacturing that spot graphic was probably screen printed on solid fabric, you can get a similar look with a stencil and spray paint.  I think these are available at the big craft stores and I've seen cute…

I'd recommend you investigate the fabric painting books available at dharmatrading.com (Dharma being a primary source of fabric dyes) and maybe other on-line resources.  There are lots of copyright free designs you can use (scaled up or…

Hmmmmm, I included four or five links with info about making your own ribbing in my other post, but the links aren't showing up. Here's another one. Hope you can actually see it.

Thanks :) Thats' really helpful. I did buy my fabric though. Laurie - they didn't have a *ton* of colors, but fabric.com had what I wanted. I bought swatches to make sure the colors would match (because on the screen they looked very off,…

I can't help you with your problem, but if you find a place that sells multiple colors of ribbing, please post it. All I can seem to find is white, off white or cream, black, and a couple of shades of blue. I have a couple of things I would…

Ribbing?

I'm wanting to make an outfit that's pretty much out of T-shirt material.  (Not converting a Tshirt, but it's the same type of material I'm getting by the yard.)  The shirt I want to make is long-sleeved, but very, very long.  The cuffs are also long - the typical ribbed cuff on a sweatshirt is about 2 or 3 inches long (I would guess?) but these need to basically be the length of your arm from wrist to elbow.I haven't bought my fabric yet, but I was wondering, if I buy regular Tshirt fabric, is…See More

Fabulous! I love upcycling things that I don't wear anymore into something new and beautiful. I love the rings that attach the straps! :)

My computer is loaded up with some pretty "high powered" stuff - and I only run VMWare when I absolutely *have* to, because it seriously slows everything down to be running it. I really don't want to have any programs that *require*…

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a happily married mother of three; and a "southern gal" transplant into Yankee country. In my former profession, I was a pastry chef. I'm currently a web designer on sabbatical. I have a need to express my creativity, and I usually do it though my designs - but with no designs to work on, I've been getting creative and returned to an old hobby: sewing, to fill that void.

I've also started a new creative outlet: knitting. You can find me under the name "CandyBill" over at Ravelry.
What type of sewing do you enjoy?
garment, home decor, upholstery
What type(s) of sewing machine(s) do you have?
One my mother bought me as a birthday present 2 years ago. I don't know what it is. We got it at Sears, so I think it's a Kenmore.
What brands of patterns have you tried?
No preference - whatever works. Sometimes I make up my own :)

This video demonstrates how to fix / adjust / repair the timing of the hook on a sewing machine. If the thread from your needle isn't getting caught by the hook that rotates around, this video explains what to adjust to fix that. Requires some very basic tools and takes 15-30 minutes - maybe less.
