carseat recover

This was a carseat used 3 years ago with my grandson. Now, dd is having a girl in April. I took the old seat cover and took it apart at each seam. I sewed new fabric onto each piece, sewed the pieces together, and VOILA! I added black ribbon with…

Profile Information

I am an awesome:
I am 42 years old; married to Jerry for 24 years. We have 2 "kids", Jamie 17, and Kristin, 21. (Not really kids anymore!) We have one grandson, Noah, 14 months old. I live in south Mississippi, and our home sits in the middle of over 5 acres of trees and grass. I love chickens, hatching them, and growing them. I love to collect eggs everyday. It's kinda like a little gift the chickens give you for the feed they get everyday. I love to sew; learned by watching my mama when I was little. After that, I just started sewing on my own. I hope being a member of SWN gives me ideas, and maybe someone will start sewing because something I made inspired them!
My sewing interests are:
garment, drapery, quilting
My sewing machine(s):
2 antique Singers
1 antique Montgomery Ward
1 Toyota sewing machine; 1 Janome; 1 Janome serger; 1 Bernina; 1 Elna embroidery machine.
I am interested in patterns such as:
Kwik sew; butterick; simplicity; patterns sold on Etsy that are made by the Etsy shop owners

T shirt surgery TIMES 2

Posted on August 20, 2011 at 5:54pm 0 Comments

Well I just finished another t shirt surgery.  I bought a pink tee at Goodwill for my DD. She is 5 weeks pregnant, so I decided to use the tee to make her a cute top.   I had bought some black cotton with hot pink swirls at Hobby Lobby.  I cut the top off below the bust, cut and gathered enough fabric to make a full, maternity top.  I made and attached 2 ties so she can "grow" into it.  I made some jersey flowers a while… Continue

Things I Enjoy...............

Posted on August 7, 2011 at 8:57pm 0 Comments

So, I went to our local Goodwill yesterday.  I was determined to find a few tees for some tee surgeries! I am a bit leery of admitting, but even at Goodwill, I am really picky about the things I get.  I buy tee shirts that have something pretty on them.  I look for stuff that I can cut up or repurpose.  I found out just 2 days ago that I'm gonna be sewing for an extra family member in about 8 months.  So, I… Continue

Bitten by a bug??

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 9:55am 0 Comments

I think the sewing bug has really been biting on me this week! I have been making hair bows (but have no one to give them to), pillowcase dresses (no one to give them to), unmentionable purse pouches, fleece hats for this winter for Grandson Noah, age 2, and have a pair of jeans that I''m gonna try to make into a skirt....the kind where you cut off the jeans just below the zipper and add fabric to the bottom...  Also, I'm just about to die to go to our local thrift store for a few tee shirts…

Busy, busy, busy!.............

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 12:27am 0 Comments

Well, I have not been posting on here for a while.  I have been so busy.  I've been working on my kitchen re-do.  Sears gave us an estimate on SOLID SURFACE  (not the really expensive stuff) countertop for my kitchen, with a new sink.  I bout had a heart failure when they gave the estimate at almost $15,000! Then, a tile floor in my kitchen and dining room was estimated at just $10,000.  That's for a 12x12 tile that was less than $2 each.  I could not believe it! So, I told hubby that I had…

Hi Sherri!  Thanks for the great ribbon choices you sent.  I have a project in mind for each of them and I will post pics as soon as they are completed.  I have an alterations business in Littlestown, PA, and it takes a lot of my time, but I look forward to reserving a bit of time for something creative.  Thanks much.  Barbara

Don't be disappointed at the newness or oldness of a tshirt. The older and more worn they are, the more character they have. I bought my next stack of tees at the thrift store. I feel like I got some really good ones, and some are worn and some faded. But it looks so good like that made into purses and stuff. Keep trying, and I'm sure your shirt will turn out great. If you need help, just holler!

Sherri, you are so welcome! I love that Old Navy shirt..Love it! I keep checking all the photos of it (glad you had so many angles of it) and I am trying to make a version of it. I ordered a Harley Davidson shirt from ebay and was disappointed at how it wasn't very new..and was a little small. I am half way thru redesigning it via your idea, lol! So thanks for sharing..Love this site! Cindy
