"Stephanie...this sounds more like a thread-related problem than a machine problem. I suggest using a different thread in the bobbin. Only use the heavy-duty thread for your top stitch. Try changing out your bobbin thread to a lighter weight and see…"

Need help with an upholstery project

I am trying to reupholster a chair that was my grandmother's. It isn't a typical chair, it's a retro 60's chair with curved chrome bars and a fabric sling for the bottom and back, as well as cushions for the back and bottom. There will be sewing involved. I experienced some problems with my regular machine trying to handle the fabric and the thick upholstery thread, so I took a sample into my local Hancock and was told a serger would help.
