Congratulations Tana. I just got home from three weeks of helping my daughter with her firstborn. Nothing like a new baby!!! I am busy sewing for him. I found a simple fitted crib sheet pattern that works like a charm!!

Well done. I like the idea of attaching a piece of cord to the zipper tab to make it easier to move the slider while inserting the zipper. Always learning new things on this great website!!

I like to use the self adhesive stabilizer. It's very easy to center things in the hoop. Especially a shirt cuff. :)

I got into dollmaking about five years ago, but everytime I'd get going on a project I'd have to go to work. I was a court reporter and got called out on jobs as a routine, even though I shouted to everyone that I'd retired! Never did finish that doll.

HI Warna,
Congratulations on your new Diamond! I'm sure you will love it. The Diamond I bought was one of the first ones available in this area. I'm sure by now some of the bugs have been worked out of the newer machines. It's a great machine just a little picky about threading. When I first started machine embroidery it was on the Viking Designer 1. I had a ball with it. I collected a lot of free designs from the internet (and still do). To begin I would just practice, practice, practice, before tackling a project. My first project was a pillow for my husband. I used several of the free designs collected and since I am a quilter, I pieced them all together. I was so pleased with myself! lol. Enjoy the journey with your new machine.

Hi Warna:
Thanks for asking.
I just cut the legs off and use the shape/size of the jeans to determine the shape. I play around with the bottom of the bag by leaving it straight or rounding it slightly. I've been using fabric from my stash for linings and usually use the seams from the legs for straps. I also purchase magnetic closures to use in place of zippers, because zippers are difficult to sew in.

Picking thr pattern can be the toughest part of the whole process. A two-block quilt might be nice. Use all of her clothing fabrics in the pieced block, pick your favorite pattern, and then use a plain block to do your embroidery on. I have seen some red-work quilts done like this. Good luck. I am sure that no matter what you do it will be great!

Warna, thanks for your compliments on my embroidery. I will check about the doll design when I can get back onto my desktop and get back to you.

I bought a serger about a year ago and in their instruction manual it said to avoid black thread if possible. I thought that was odd since I sew a lot in black thread. They recommended using a very dark navy blue instead. I of course disregarded their advice and have had no problem with black thread in either of my sergers. Maybe with some kinds of machine this IS a problem. Hope this helps - if not I hope you know there are people out there who sympathsize with you anguish. I too have fought with machines until I just threw the project down and went and bought a new machine. Laurie
