I'm a retired housewife that loves cooking, baking, trying new recipes, a traditional Lakota way of life, as much as possible, and my family. I have seven adopted grown children, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
I love traditional, classic clothing and am trying to learn how to sew better for myself and the family. I had to teach myself to sew and haven't done much in the past seven years, so consider myself pretty much a beginner.
I'm at a point in my life where I'm seriously "nesting". We own a 50 year old house in dire need of renovation and a yard of almost an acre that was overgrown and had actually needed brushing to see it. We call our home our "two bedroom mansion on the rez".
This year, I'm starting a kitchen herb garden besides the vegetable garden. With prices going up, we expect to be busy canning and putting up the herbs, vegetables and wild fruit we pick to help hold us over the next year. We fish and my partner occassionally hunts, so that helps too.
I've started collecting old machines. By that, I mean machines prior to 1960 when possible. Right now, I have four treadles and about ten motorized machines. My favorite is the 1953 Singer 206k
My sewing interests are:
garment
My sewing machine(s):
We have a new portable brother, two Elnas, a 90s bernina, a Brother portable from the 60s, a White model 764, Singer model 206K, Singer model 9134 , an early 1950s National "Princess" portable, an 1885 New Crown treadle, a White Rotary Treadle with round bobbin from 1920, a White Rotary portable from1947, a Free-Westinghouse from 1939, two Kenmores from the 1960s, and a Singer portable from the 60s maybe the early 70s. The majority cost $10-$25, except the for Bernina, the Free-Westinghouse and the American the Singer 206K, four were free and two are in cabinets. Only the Bernina and the 206 need work now. The New Crown and American 7 need SERIOUS cleaning and refinishing, but that will probably be my major winter project. All are really mine, except for the Bernina and the Elnas.
Hello Wiyaka : ) What an interesting profile! I'm assuming that you're Lakota? Does your name have a special meaning?
Our church (Congregation Zion's Sake) is a messianic congregation & we are in partnership with Chief Ann Richardson of the Rappahannock tribe. It's a great opportunity to bring unity between groups that otherwise might never cross paths.
Great to meet you & hope you enjoy Sew What's New!
Hi Wiyaka=I'm Ann- my grandmother was Mohawk and I still miss her so much-she was such a wonderful person-she taught me so much(especially to always laugh at myself) anyway nice to meet you--Ann
