My new Janome 9300DX serger/overlocker

Okay, as I said I want to replace my Riccar so I can use some different feet.  After going boss-eyed reading up on Elna, Bernina, Janome, Babylock and Juki (yes I know there are more but they were all recommended by someone!) I have decided that on my budget (max £500, about $796) I would go with Janome.  My sewing machine is a Janome DC3050 and it was supplied by my local service engineer.  I had a chat with him and he said  I would get everything I want from the new 9300DX and the money I…

Coverstitch in the Round: How to End

I belong to the Elna Serger Mailing List. Bryden posted these instructions for finishing off the coverstitch:

Thread Education!

What would you say to someone who told you: "I love to watch TV but my TV only gets one channel so that's all I watch. I'd really like to watch other channels but the reception just isn't very good. I'm afraid if I adjust the antenna too much, I might break it."

My response would be: "Are…

Side Seam Pockets Sewing Lesson

Many patterns call for pockets that are sewn right into the side seam. If these are well-done, they lie flat against the body and don't break the line of the skirt or pants. But sometimes, these pockets stick out from the sides and the result is not so pleasing. How do we sew these guys in the best way possible?…

Custom T-shirt - Kwik Sew 2565 Review

T-shirts are really easy to sew.  However, just like any top, a t-shirt must be fitted if it is going to flatter a very buxom woman like me.

Kwik Sew 2565 tiedyeBurnoutPanne I started with Kwik Sew 2565, now out of print, and a tie-dye burnout panne from Joann’s.  That fabric was all…

Pin Tucks on Fleece

Using a twin needle is something we usually associate with heirloom sewing for making tiny pin-tucks; or we think of hemming knits with a twin needle. But polar fleece can be sewn with a twin needle for some spectacular results.

Pin tucks on fleece are as easy as inserting and threading a twin needle.…

Auditions for a Fancy Quilt

I am furiously working on my new quilt design with the wonderful Flea Market Fancy fabrics that I recently purchased from Ballarat Patchwork.  My plan is to have the piecing for the quilt top finished very soon and a pattern written soon after that.

However, I thought that I would share a little of my design process.  Sometimes, when you are really lucky, the finished quilt design just magically…

New Look 6898 Pattern Review

I made this jacket ... um ... 10 years ago.  This is a great timeless pattern.  It's really too bad that it went out of print so quickly.  It's available at Etsy.  …
