Didn't Get the Borrowed Machine...Got Something Better!

In celebration of our 16th wedding anniversary, my dear and sweet husband told me to forget the borrowed machine and go buy one for myself. After a long day of shopping...I am lucky to have dealers for Bernina, Viking, and Janome all in the same town...I came home really wanting a Bernina but unable to fit what I wanted into our budget. Being a little frustrated and disappointed, I prayed for some guidance. Lo and behold, I happened upon an ad (I love craigslist!) that had just been posted…

Holy Frijoles! The Opportunity of a Lifetime!

I am so blessed! As y'all know, I've been looking at investing in an Embroidery Machine. Through a friend, I was introduced to the sweetest girl who has a machine she possibly wanted to sell. Without going into the long story, she really wants to keep the machine, but doesn't know how to use it and cannot get around to go into the store for lessons. Well, after talking to her, I received the most generous offer ever...I'm bringing her machine w/ all the extras to my…

Looking Ahead to Feb. 14th...Thoughts? Ideas? Patterns? Tutorials?

The holidays are gone. Kids are back in school. The South is in a DeepFreeze! My thoughts are turning to February and Valentine's Day. What are you making? What are your traditions? Does anyone still handmake Valentine's with their school-age children? I'm looking for sewing/craft ideas for Valentine's presents for my kids and spouse. Nothing too involved or fancy. Just something sweet and simple. You know, something useful to go along with the required chocolate heart. :o) Would you post any… Continue

Need Opinions Please

I'm recycling a dress into something wearable for Christmas. (It used to have a big leopard print collar and cuffs...yuck). I re-fashioned a vintage belt yesterday with some green satin to give a pop of color. Now I need to lengthen the dress (and coordinate with my choir colors) for church...can't be on stage with a dress over the knees! Don't want to show the entire church (we expect around 10,000 people for Christmas Eve services) all my business! LOL What do you think of adding a band of… Continue

Fancy Pants aka Stretch Lace Panties

If you've never attempted sewing your own panties, I urge you to give it a try. You'll need approximately one yard of lace (more or less depending on your hip size) and a small piece of cotton knit. I prefer cotton jersey.

The panties I'm going to show you today are called Stretch Lace Panties. Sometimes they are called Brazilian Huggers or Hipsters. They take only three seams to sew together. The cotton lining is optional, though I highly recommend taking the extra few minutes… Continue

Stretch Lace Heaven

Oh my golly! I racked up at Mary Jo's last evening! I stopped counting at 25 yds. of stretch / lingerie laces. Mary Jo's has the best selection of stretch lace I have ever seen. There are many colors and widths from which to choose. The ladies in my family are going to have the best panties this Christmas! LOL Every piece of stretch lace I found was priced at a low and reasonable rate of only 79¢ per yard. Here's a look... …

Apron Fabric, Anyone?

I grabbed these out of the remnant bin and thought it was an all-red Christmas fabric. Turns out, it's an apron panel. I have two panels. I have all my gifts planned for this year, and hate to think they're going to sit in my stash another year. As my Christmas gift to my SWN friends, I'm offering these up to the first two responders. Leave a comment, and I'll send you a PM (private message) to make arrangements to mail them to you. Merry Christmas! …

Embroidery Machines...What to Know Before Purchasing

So I had to take my husband around town yesterday to run some errands. While he was in the hardware store, I decided to take a moment and look for some flannel fabric at one of the local sewing shops, conveniently located in the same shopping center. :o) I didn't find any flannel, but DH finished shopping before I did and came into the sewing store. He was intrigued by the embroidery machines, and asked me if I wanted one. GASP! Are you kidding?!? Um, Yeah. I'd like one.

Never one to… Continue

My New Blog

I began blogging and am still trying to figure out how to tie it into this site. If anyone can help me with that, it would be greatly appreciated. My blog is Seams Inspired. I have a tutorial on ribbon tulle skirts posted, along with some other random thoughts for this week. Happy Friday!
