T shirt surgery TIMES 2

Well I just finished another t shirt surgery.  I bought a pink tee at Goodwill for my DD. She is 5 weeks pregnant, so I decided to use the tee to make her a cute top.   I had bought some black cotton with hot pink swirls at Hobby Lobby.  I cut the top off below the bust, cut and gathered enough fabric to make a full, maternity top.  I made and attached 2 ties so she can "grow" into it.  I made some jersey flowers a while… Continue

Things I Enjoy...............

So, I went to our local Goodwill yesterday.  I was determined to find a few tees for some tee surgeries! I am a bit leery of admitting, but even at Goodwill, I am really picky about the things I get.  I buy tee shirts that have something pretty on them.  I look for stuff that I can cut up or repurpose.  I found out just 2 days ago that I'm gonna be sewing for an extra family member in about 8 months.  So, I… Continue

Bitten by a bug??

I think the sewing bug has really been biting on me this week! I have been making hair bows (but have no one to give them to), pillowcase dresses (no one to give them to), unmentionable purse pouches, fleece hats for this winter for Grandson Noah, age 2, and have a pair of jeans that I''m gonna try to make into a skirt....the kind where you cut off the jeans just below the zipper and add fabric to the bottom...  Also, I'm just about to die to go to our local thrift store for a few tee shirts…

Busy, busy, busy!.............

Well, I have not been posting on here for a while.  I have been so busy.  I've been working on my kitchen re-do.  Sears gave us an estimate on SOLID SURFACE  (not the really expensive stuff) countertop for my kitchen, with a new sink.  I bout had a heart failure when they gave the estimate at almost $15,000! Then, a tile floor in my kitchen and dining room was estimated at just $10,000.  That's for a 12x12 tile that was less than $2 each.  I could not believe it! So, I told hubby that I had…

Maybe I will learn to make my own patterns..........

Well, I don't know how everyone else feels about watching the contestants on Project Runway, but they make me want to go to design school! But, I'm 43, and there's not one just down the road from my house! So anyway, I  went to my local fabric store for a class on Pattern Making.  I kinda figured it was a sales pitch, and sure enough it was.  But, it was for the Lutterloh system, which I had read a LOT… Continue

New sewing room............

I am turning an extra bedroom into a sewing/craft room. I have so much stuff it's ridiculous! But, I am having trouble thinking of how to store my silk flowers so that I can see what I have without having to dig through boxes; a way they won't get crushed, as they would if stored in see-through bins; a way that I can display them, maybe in some type of system that is attached to a wall??? Can anyone think of anything? Please let me know. I am desperate!

I think my tractor's sexy!

It's been a super long time since I logged in....months.  But, I got busy with everything else and now, I'm missing all my SWN friends!  I am making quilts.  I have been making them a lot lately. I have about 5 tops that I have to hand quilt.  I have a quilt for my brother in my quilt frame.  It's a "goose creek" block, with Farmall tractors (aka International tractors).  It's in blacks, reds, and white.  It's pretty, but has a lot of quilting.  My fingertips are awful looking! I wouldn't even… Continue

new sewing machine???

I am considering getting a new sewing machine. I only have 8....don't you think I need another? LOL. Anyway, I bought my Bernina on eBay, took it to the Bernina dealer and had it serviced. Also bought my Janome online, and it was new, so I didn't have to have it serviced right away. I sewed a LOT on it. Took it to the Bernina dealer, and had it serviced, (oiled, all that good stuff). I have my Janome serger, which I am not yet ready to part with it. I also have my Elna embroidery… Continue

"Tee" Time, Anyone????

I have just finished reading all of the comments about the shirts I have made and the bags. I am simply overwhelmed! Thanks to everyone! I was skeptical to begin with about this venture into tee shirt land.... But, I started out digging through my son's closet and finding the Old Navy tee that he just wouldn't wear, or didn't know how picky they are???!!!! Anyway, after that one, I used another one of his that he didn't wear. Then, I decided I wanted to go to the…

I'm turning green I think!!!!!!!

I have watched many of the tutes on you tube about reinventing tee shirts. I LOVE some of the ideas! Super cute! So, I ran to a "kinda local" thrift store and took my time going through the ones for teens, women, and men. I found some that are pretty cool! I found one that has the "Queen" logo (the singing group), several with destination names like Jamaica, California, etc., then one with "Switchfoot" (the singing group), etc! I'm super excited. Got an armload of shirts, and all were half off!… Continue

Men's shirt into a cute halter....

I posted a pic of a halter top that I made from a $2 Salvation Army men's long sleeve shirt. A couple of people have asked about ease of construction. I will try to explain it. There is a tutorial on you tube......I think I found it by putting in the you tube search box "a halter top from a men's shirt". It shows step by step. Anyway, I laid the shirt flat in my living room floor, all straightened out. I cut the shirt all the way across the chest area, about 1/2" under where the underarm seam… Continue

Poppies anyone?

I am out to find some fabric that has poppies on it. I will need several yards. I want a cotton...cotton blend....really anything that is suitable for a summer dress or outfit that I can wear outside and not feel like my clothes are sticking to me! I am very hot natured. I want the old-timey looking poppies that are red, preferrably on a white background. If you know of any at any store, or some that someone has for sale, or that they might think of selling, please drop me a… Continue

New profile page

I had such a nice profile on SWN. But, my computer must be on drugs, because it no longer would let me sign in. So, I managed to delete one of the profiles. I am here with this, my newest profile! I hope we don't have to get a new computer again....I think I'll pull my hair out making another profile! Anyway, I hope if you were on my friends list, you will come on over to my new page. I posted pics of things I had made, and if I can find those same pics, I'm gonna put them on this new profile.… Continue
