Hi!

Hi there. My name is Laurie and I'm new to this group. I just uploaded some pics of my sewing studio. I do machine quilting, hand and machine embroidery, and finally just realized my dream come true - a longarm quilting machine! I am a retired (disabled) 54 yr old RN; had to stop working in 2001 because of multiple medical problems. I started quilting about a year after that when I finally got over the self-pity party! I still miss working but DO love my quilting! I am also (since having stopped working) a 2 yr colon cancer survivor and also had a spread to the lung. I am a survivor!

Looking forward to getting to know all of you and seeing your sewing spaces.

I'm happy you found quilting, it's an amazing skill. My mother does some outstanding work, but I tilt more to clothing and home decorating. I've made a few smaller quilts, but she does more elaborate things that I don't have the talent for.
We're happy to have you here, and congrats on beating cancer's proverbial butt. I would give you a hug if this wasn't the internet, so just pretend I did :)

Comment by Gena on July 6, 2009 at 7:03pm: Hi Laurie, I'm Gena. I live in Texas USA. I am glad to meet you. It sounds like you are a surviver for sure. I am recovering from massive hernia surgery. ouch. Today's my first attempt online since last Tuesday.
My sister bought me a little gracie quilt table and machine for quilting but I never got the hang of it and now my brother lives with me. He was in an accident and has been with me for 2 yrs. My sewing space is my lap and that's ok...not good with machines anyway. Have a great day. Happy quilting. Gena
