Hi,

Does anyone have suggestions of the best machine for a child to start learning to sew?  She is 6 but has sewn some with me and now she wants a machine for her birthday.  Some of the small machines do not have good reviews.  Please share any suggestions.  Thanks.

Mary

I know this post is old, but thought I'd chime in if there are any lurkers.

All my kids started sewing. I bought them the cheap brother sewing machines at Walmart. They worked perfectly until the 90 day return was over. The constant jamming, unthreading was annoying and frustrating.

I'm trading all them in for a Janome sewing machine(much better reviews).

Thanks for you response. I finally decided to buy her a real machine rather than a kid model. Her party is tomorrow and she will get it then. She is 6.

I taught my granddaughter to use the sewing machine when she was 6. I wanted it to be a good experience for her so I gave her my older Viking machine rather than getting her a cheaper machine that can have problems. She took to it fast, she loved changing threads, using metallic thread was her fave.
