It's been a great summer! I know it's not what you want to hear, but it's August already. The kids will be back in school before you know it. My summer has been a whirlwind from softball games to basketball. Let's just say I'm beat and finally getting my summer sewing completed.
I knew I wanted to make this Vogue Dress ever since I saw it earlier this year. It's unclear to me why I rarely review vogue patterns but I love most of the designs and the unique details. Well today I broke that habit and have this breathtaking DKNY dress.
I would have to say the movement you would get with a dress like this is nothing short of spectacular. I love to dance and this would make the perfect swirly twirly dress! It's heavy on flounce/peplum detail in the front which is great.
In the past I've seen dresses and skirts with major flounce action in the back and it has always been a turn off. I guess I'm just not a fan of having an attached cushion with my clothing.
Thumbs up always for great instructions, you can't beat that. A project will always be frustrating if you become overwhelmed with the instruction. However this is not one of those and the start to finish time is not bad. I completed this in one day.
A belt pattern is included but I decided to skip that step and use one I had. Another great thing about this pattern is the pockets. I have a love of pockets in dresses, it may not always be functional but detail satisfies me.
Note: The pattern and fabric was cut a head of time.
My soar moment was Pattern Piece 6. This is the front peplum, which states to Cut 1, but in fact you have to cut two. Because if you don't, you'll have one front pocket and you'll be rocking an asymmetric dress. I may have gotten a bad print on this pattern, but just be on the look out for this issue with your pattern.
Other than Piece 6 having a miss print, I like this dress. If I do sew it again, I would go with a solid print. It's such a distinct style that you may not want two in your wardrobe, yet it would be very rewarding to sew once more.
